Capsule Resume
Ian is well known for his work on avian ecology and behaviour, especially waterfowl. From 1978 to 1997, he was a waterfowl ecologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service, and worked throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and British Columbia and Alberta where his pioneering work contributed some of the first field research of the sea ducks. He has worked privately in environmental consulting for the past decade, and he received a Certificate of Significant Contribution to the Atlantic Cooperative Wildlife Ecology Research Network in 2004 for his role as the principal scientific investigator on a large research project to study the effects of military jet noise on birds in Labrador in 1999 to 2004, and a Certificate of Appreciation from Ducks Unlimited in 1989. He is extensively published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, including expertise in demography, ecology, behaviour, and effects of noise on wildlife. He has attended numerous conferences, symposia and workshops, edited conference proceedings, and is an experienced scientific editor frequently refereeing articles submitted to scientific journals. He has an extensive knowledge of the geography and ecology of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Ian is a Newfoundlander and lives in St. John's where he is a performing musician, spiritualist and devoted parent.
