Capsule Resume

Since joining LGL in 2006, Matt has worked on the Peace River investigating fisheries resources in the mainstem and in tributaries. He assisted on several fish habitat projects including the Stoltz Bluff restoration project on the Cowichan River. He is also a member of LGL's Nass team, working with the Nisga'a Fisheries management group in New Aiyansh. He has supervised video-counting projects at remote fish weirs, chinook, coho and sockeye escapement surveys and he has co-managed the fish wheel test fishery in the Nass River.

Matt has 19 years of experience in stock assessment, fisheries habitat and riparian assessments, and fish habitat restoration and enhancement. Prior to joining LGL, Matt participated in and led many large field studies investigating the life history, abundance and distribution of fish, particularly salmonids. Matt has been co-project manager on several large projects assessing the impacts of forest harvest, agriculture and transportation corridors on fish and fish habitat including concurrent assessments of riparian health and function. Matt has completed assessments of streams crossed by forestry roads for fish presence and fish passage. He has worked for two Provincial ministries and for Fisheries and Oceans Canada and he has taught fish capture methods and field skills to college students. Much of his work has occurred in watersheds between Prince George and the Yukon border; therefore, he has a keen interest in fish species typical of northern BC such as Arctic grayling, burbot and lake trout.
