Wayne King, B.Sc.
Fish & Wildlife Biologist
Joined LGL in August 2001 with 20+ years of diverse lab and field experience. This diversity comes from having worked with marine mammals (harp & hood seals), large terrestrial mammals (black bear, white-tailed deer, red fox), small mammals (weasel, bats and rodents), numerous bird species and various types of fish in such unique locations as the Beaufort Sea, Yukon, NWT, Ontario and Magdeleine Islands in Canada; the rocky mountains of Colorado, USA; the tropical Iwokrama Forest Reserve of Guyana, South America. He is experienced in stream survey protocols including electrofishing, habitat assessment and fish identification and is skilled in using topographic maps and GPS units. Years of capturing and handling fish, birds and mammals have developed strong identification skills in all three disciplines. He has over one hundred hours flying aerial surveys in helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Since joining LGL he has flown marine mammal surveys over the Beaufort Sea, geese surveys over the Yukon North Slope and waterfowl surveys up the Mackenzie River. He co-authored the 2001 Yukon North Slope goose survey report. The summer of 2002 has included work on numerous Ontario environmental assessment and inventory projects plus ground shorebird inventories in the Northwest Territories around the Mackenzie Delta region.
