Greeneridge Sciences, Inc. transitions
to independent ownership and operation

  • Greeneridge to pursue a wider range of opportunities involving acoustics and marine wildlife
  • Dr. Katherine Kim continues as president and CEO; Dr. William Burgess named vice president
  • Close association between Greeneridge and LGL to continue

Greeneridge Sciences, Inc. and LGL Limited are pleased to announce Greeneridge's transition to independent ownership and operation.

This milestone in the companies’ 36-year association will maintain their long-term strategic collaboration while enabling Greeneridge to pursue a wider range of opportunities. Dr. Katherine Kim will continue in her role as president and CEO of Greeneridge. Dr. William Burgess, developer of the Bioacoustic Probe and Acousonde acoustic recording tags, is now vice president.

LGL was founded in 1971 to conduct environmental research in Canada and the United States. Studies and assessments of noise and disturbance effects on marine animals have been one of LGL's specialties since the 1970s.

Greeneridge Sciences opened its doors in 1982 as one of the first independent organizations dedicated to understanding, monitoring, and mitigating human acoustic impacts on marine wildlife. From the start, Greeneridge's founder, Dr. Charles Greene, worked closely with LGL biologists to advance these goals, especially in the context of offshore petroleum exploration and production in the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic.

In 2008, and with the approaching retirement of Dr. Greene, Greeneridge joined the LGL Group of companies. The combined and more closely-integrated capabilities of LGL and Greeneridge enabled their continued study of environmental challenges involving bioacoustics in Alaska and elsewhere.

Although independent again, Greeneridge will continue to work closely with LGL on future joint efforts while pursuing new initiatives.

Greeneridge Sciences is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, with satellite offices in San Diego and Santa Cruz counties. LGL is headquartered in King City, Ontario, and maintains offices in Alaska (Anchorage), Texas (Bryan/College Station), Washington (Ellensburg), British Columbia (Sidney), Ontario (Cambridge), Newfoundland and Labrador (St. John's), and Russia (Vladivostok), plus satellite offices in the U.S. and Canada.
